LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
RIGHT FROM THE START

It’s not unusual for a homeowner to consult a Landscape Architect near the end of the construction process.  In fact,  the most important time to bring in the landscape architect is at the very beginning, during the development of the site plan and the design of the home.

“As part of the design team, our most important role is to assist the homeowner and their architect with the planning of the entire property,” says Alec Michaelides, ASLA, principal designer with Land Plus Associates.  “We take into account the correct placement of the residence on the property, and consider views, privacy, grading constraints and existing vegetation.”

The Land Plus team’s role in site planning includes consulting with the architect on design decisions including daylight basements, garage locations and entrances.  Their early involvement also helps anticipate potentially expensive surprises that are bound to come up during construction, such as the need for retaining walls, privacy screens and tree replacement.

“A significant number of issues are often overlooked by the architect and homeowner alike until late in the planning process,” Michaelides says.   “Involving us early in the process ensures that the architectural style of the home is going to be compatible with the site that has been chosen, or that potential cost concerns regarding site development are considered.”  Furthermore, permit regulations may be studied to analyze the potential problems that will arise because of the need for desirable site elements such as pools, tennis courts or fences.

While beautiful landscape designs contribute that sought-after “Final Touch” for every residence, they’re the result of teamwork early on by the residential design team.  Contact Land Plus Associates right from the start as you plan for your future residence.
