LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE It’s not unusual for a homeowner to consult a Landscape Architect near the end of the construction process. In fact, the most important time to bring in the landscape architect is at the very beginning, during the development of the site plan and the design of the home. “As part of the design team, our most important role is to assist the homeowner and their architect with the planning of the entire property,” says Alec Michaelides, ASLA, principal designer with Land Plus Associates. “We take into account the correct placement of the residence on the property, and consider views, privacy, grading constraints and existing vegetation.” The Land Plus team’s role in site planning includes consulting with the architect on design decisions including daylight basements, garage locations and entrances.
